E Mittens

Crochet Pattern

By: Amal Saleh

 Aka: Purpleneedle

img_1295

E Mittens were inspired by the first snow of the year. All of a sudden I felt the need for thick warm mittens to play with the lovely snow.

The snow came twice and melted before finishing the design or completing the pattern. I had to keep focused on developing the pattern because I knew if I moved to another project I’ll forget the ideas I had for this pattern. The process of developing these mittens were like the snow sometimes hard and sometimes fun.

The E Mittens are worked from cuff up towards fingertips then the thumb is worked from gusset opening up towards thumb tip.

All questions, feedback and corrections are welcomed.

Enjoy!

Notes ·      Right & Left mittens are identical.

·      The type of yarn you use for this project plays major rule in the end results. I highly recommend socks yarn with nylon content because it will maintain about 90% to 80 % of it’s original size after multiple usage and washes. 100% non- super wash wool may work as well. Try to avoid alpaca, cotton, bamboo and acrylic because they can stretch dramatically and add undesirable positive ease to your mittens.

·      If you’re using yarn different than what’s suggested in pattern, I recommend that you wash your gauge swatch and allow it to dry on flat surface without stretching or flattening the stitches. If the gauge changes or if the swatch is not as stretchy as before washing then consider changing the hook size, the mittens size or the yarn.

·      The nature of the stitches in this pattern stretches vertically and horizontally allowing wide range of hand sizes to use one mittens size. For best results of cozy fitted mittens work one size smaller than your hand measurements. For example, if your hand circumference is 7.5” crochet size medium.

·      All stitches are worked in the corresponding stitches from previous round unless the instructions specify that you crochet in the space between stitches.

·      2-Ch & 3-Ch Stitches in this pattern count as 1st stitch.

·      Edging is optional and included in yardage.

·      To ease counting rounds, place removable markers at the beginning of each section or each round of the section you’re working on.

·      If you’d like to learn how to crochet the Chainless Foundation Chains watch on YouTube, Gleeful Things Video Tutorial Titled “Double Crochet Chainless Foundations Tutorial”.

·      Before starting leave 2 yards tail to use it later for edging.

How To Customize

The best way to customize your mittens is to try them on after completing each section or few rounds. Decide how you like them to fit and increase or decrease rounds accordingly
